It's easy to participate in Lehigh's Distance Education program. If you are already on the web, a few plug-ins are all you need. Please review the list below to see if you have what you need.

Please note that this is a minimum list. If your configuration does not meet these requirements, we cannot guarantee that the streaming media will work correctly on your computer.

Hardware requirements To check hardware settings
233 MHZ Intel PentiumII processor Start > Control Panel > System > Double click to open System Properties Panel > Click General Tab (You can find your processor and RAM settings here.)
128 Meg of RAM. The more the better
A high-speed connection (Broadband - DSL or cable modem) is required. [NOTE: Contact the Office of Distance Education if broadband is not available in your area.] Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options > Click Modem Tab (You will find your modem setting here.)
A reliable Internet Service Provider  
16-bit or better sound card and speakers Generally computers with PentiumII processors or higher support 16-bit sound card and 16-bit resolution. Go to our test page to check your systems.
65,000 colors (16-bit) or better video display card
Printer – color or BW, ink jet or laser  

Please note these instructions to find your hardware settings are based on a system running Windows XP. There may be slight navigational differences to get to the appropriate menu if you are running Windows 95/98/ME/2000.

Software requirements To check software settings
Windows 98, ME, NT Services Pack 4 or later, or XP Start > Control Panel > System > Double click to open System Properties Panel > Click General Tab (You can find your current Operational System right on the top.)

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Double click to view the list of software that is on your computer.)

* PowerPoint Viewer: It is for users who don’t have Microsoft PowerPoint; It allows you to view PowerPoint presentations over the Internet.

** Word Viewer: It is for users who don’t have Word. It is a freeware product that allows you to view and print Word documents.

For either synchronous (live) streaming or asynchronous (on-demand) streaming participation, you must have a high-speed Internet connection, such as a corporate T1 line, a cable modem, or a DSL connection. The connection must be outside any company firewall. [NOTE: Contact the Office of Distance Education if broadband is not available in your area.]
